Senior Financial Analyst - FP&A

Summary

This position requires the individual to develop an understanding of all company operations. The position will support the Financial Planning & Analysis team in the development and execution of the annual Plan, monthly forecasts, and analysis reporting of actual results. The Senior Financial Analyst will also assist in the company’s capital planning, approval, and monitoring process. The position will also perform various ad-hoc analysis and prepare management reports emphasizing historical results, budgets, forecasts, and trends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Forecast, model, and analyze student financial aid sources/funding methods. Calculate location and Education System “90/10” funding scores used by management.

2. Assist in the development of the annual Plan, including the capital, financial, and operational budgets.

3. Perform actual to budget variance analysis while highlighting risks.

4. Provide management with timely analyses and reports as needed, including profitability analyses, cost/benefit analyses, and other ad hoc analyses.

5. Assist with the development of financial models to determine costs vs. benefits of specific projects and initiatives and evaluate the net present value and internal rate of return of cash flows associated with investment proposals.

6. Assist with various projects related to financial operations including development of new systems and processes to improve department and company efficiency.

7. Participate in the Monthly closing process with regard to analyzing and investigating actual versus forecast earnings’ variances, balance sheet/working capital results, and operating cash flow. Work with Education System Finance VPs to understand earnings and capital spending activities.

8. Work closely with other members of the Finance team including finance teams in the Education Systems, Accounting, Treasury, Operations Reporting, and Tax. Also work on various cross-functional projects with departments like Information Technology and Human Resources.

• Reports to – Financial Planning & Analysis Manager

• Supervises – no current direct reports

• Interacts with – CFO, Corporate Finance team, Education Systems resources, Procurement, Legal, and others as needed.

Qualifications

• This position requires a B.S. degree, preferably in finance, business or accounting and 5-8 years work experience (MBA a plus).

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (at all levels of management), and must be able to work effectively across the organizational and functional boundaries.

• Solid functional knowledge of / experience with Microsoft Suite of Applications including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to create structure and definition in situations that are uncertain or ambiguous.

• Ability to adapt quickly to change and will champion the advancement of financial planning tools, systems, and controls that enhance management decision making.

• Familiarity with GAAP and accounting principles and practices.

• Highly organized with the ability to work on multiple projects at any given time.
